Independent scientist
I am an ecologist and entomologist (Master in Biological Sciences, UGent, 2004) with a specialization in evolutionary ecological processes. I obtained my PhD in biology at Ghent University in 2010 in collaboration with the Royal Museum for Central Africa, Entomology Section, Tervuren, Belgium. During my research project I was affiliated with ICIPE (African Insect Science for Food and Health, Nairobi, Kenya) and collaborated with the Entomology Department of North Carolina State University, Raleigh, USA and the Belgian Royal Institute of Natural Sciences, Brussels. I studied the biogeography and phylogeny of host plant specialization in phytophagous Afro-tropical fruit flies of the genus Ceratitis (agricultural pest insects). Since 2010 I have been working as a scientific researcher at the Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research, Social Sciences Unit. My current research interests are functional agro-biodiversity, sustainable development and sustainable food production.
